Corcoran Gallery of Art Lecture: MONDAY, MARCH 30 7 P.M.
"BRINGING THE AMERICAN GARDEN HOME" with Wolfgang Oehme

Wolfgang Oehme is a revolutionary landscape architect and co-creator of the innovative garden style, the New American Garden. His gardens' free-form designs reflect the simple beauty of the American prairie with explosions of vibrant color, lush texture, and the sweet scent of fragrant flowers. Through his creative use of perennials and ornamental grasses, Oehme's designs harmonize beautifully with the natural environment. From the Corcoran's stage, this ground-breaking landscape architect reminds us all of our connection with nature as he discusses his unique design style. Carol Oppenheimer, Oehme's colleague, joins the discussion.

This lecture is part of a series accompanying the exhibition, "Maya Lin: Systematic Landscapes," a show that explores the notions of environment and landscape. The show runs from March 14 - July 12, 2009. For more information visit The Corcoran Gallery of Art.

SketchUP Workshop in February

SketchUP Workshop in February

On February 23, 2009, our chapter presented a training session in SketchUP, a free 3D design tool created by Google.  In a full-day workshop, participants learned how to use this program to express designs in three dimensions.  The training was provided by Dr. Jules Bruck, APLD, assistant professor of landscape design at the University of Delaware and Education Chair of APLD.  APLD awards 4.5 CEU’s for participation in this workshop.

Book Discounts for Chapter Members. Chapter members can receive a 40% discount on purchases from Workman Press, including items from Timber Press, a subsidiary of Workman. Contact Toni Bailey, gracefulgardenscapes@comcast.net for details.
